Jimmy’s PourHouse History
Jimmy’s Pour House, established in 1977 by Jim (Jimmy) and Marilyn Lynch. It all began when Jim and Marilyn searched for the perfect place to pursue their dream of becoming entrepreneurs. Stumbling upon this little beer joint in the small town of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, Jimmy was sold. Marilyn and the kids weren’t quite so eager! Jim and Marilyn with their youngest 5 of 11 children made the move to Sauk Rapids.
The building consisted of a small old weathered bar, with an apartment on the main floor and a few efficiency apartments in the upper level. Jimmy was determined to defy the odds and turn this old building into a thriving restaurant. We were certain he had lost his mind!
As our family settled into Sauk Rapids we learned the historical significance of Sauk Rapids as well as the building we now called home. Our building was previously known as the Blue Eagle and was a favorite place for young and old alike. To this day we hear stories of the famous “Penny Candy Counter” that was a must stop after school for the local kids.
Being an Irishman, Jimmy wanted to celebrate his heritage by adding a little Irish flair to the décor. He was also an avid golfer, so he integrated golf into the Irish theme. He established a St. Patrick’s Day celebration that began with a parade made up of customers, family and friends; green beer in hand they paraded-down the streets through all the local businesses. No formal marching bands or floats; just a line up of people marching arm and arm singing Irish tunes with the help of a giant ‘Boom Box” that Jimmy carried on his shoulders! Jimmy had a Great Dane named Beau who always took the lead! It was quite a site to be seen. Following the Parade, we went right into a huge party serving green beer and corned beef sandwiches. We still celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the big party, green beer and have added Corned beef and Cabbage, Irish Stew, Bangers and Mash.
Jimmy’s began serving burgers from a tiny grill located behind the bar. We could only fit 4 burgers at a time with no room to even cook French fries. Although it was just a few simple burgers, they had the be quality product and properly prepared. Jim and Marilyn were sticklers when it came to the quality of the food. Dad always said “never serve a lesser quality, cheap product even if it increases profits. Instead, buy well…prepare well and price accordingly. People would rather pay a fair price for a good meal than a lessor price for lessor quality meal.” That thought process is what Jimmy’s Pour House was built on.
Since 1977 Jimmy’s has remodeled and added on to the building several times. We went from a seating capacity of 40 to over 300 seats. We have an extensive menu that offers something for everyone. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and have a banquet/party room for groups. There are 20+ TV’s so you never have to miss a big game and can enjoy Happy Hour daily.
